When to Call a Commercial Electrician to Your Business

Blog

A commercial electrician is a term often used for an electrician who works on both commercial and residential locations, but typically they specialize in businesses and offices. You may think you only need a commercial electrician when the power goes out at your location, but this isn't always the case. It can be good to call a commercial electrician to your place of business, whether that's an office, storefront, or production facility, for a number of reasons. Note a few of those here so you know when to schedule such a visit for a business you own or manage.

1. When cords are running everywhere

Extension cords and power cords can present a danger to your location, as stepping on them can mean pulling them away from whatever device they're plugged into or out of a power socket. Either can be very dangerous, as this suddenly disconnects the electrical circuit; in turn, there may be a spark that could ignite nearby drapery, carpet, and the like. These cords also present a tripping hazard to your employees. If your office or other area has cords running everywhere, call a commercial electrician to see about adding needed outlets along nearby walls or even in the ceiling so you don't need to rely so much on long cords.

2. When you want to update your electronic devices

A new copier or phone system can mean having the services you need for your office, but it can also mean a drain on a building's older wiring. In turn, that wiring can risk becoming frayed or worn, and this can lead to an electrical fire. You might also suffer more brownouts if old wiring cannot supply all the power your new devices demand. When upgrading to any type of new equipment, call a commercial electrician to test the wiring and see if you need to upgrade that as well.

3. When you want to reduce your power consumption

A commercial electrician can usually do more than just install new wiring or repair old wiring; they can often tell you how to save on your power consumption overall. Many electricians will conduct a type of audit of your building, checking the type of light bulbs and other devices you use and noting where you might add motion sensors, "sleep" features to machines, and the like. This can mean reducing the amount of electricity you use every month while not interrupting your business in any way.

Best Questions to Ask Electricians and Other Tips and Ideas

Welcome to my blog. My name is Mia. A few years ago, my partner and I bought an old home. It needed to have all new wiring installed, and through that process of working closely with a fabulous electrician, I learned a lot. I learned everything, from which questions to ask, to how to do a bit of wiring on my own. If you are hiring an electrician, you need to explore my posts. I hope they help guide you in the right direction. Now, that our home is finally, for the first time, not in the midst of a repair or project, I decided to start this blog. In addition, I also like to fish and read.
