3 Important Aspects in Maintaining Your Commercial Electrical System

Blog

The electrical power system in your commercial building is a critical element in the efficiency of your operations. Therefore, it is important to make certain that the modules in the system are performing effectively at all times. In simple terms, proper care for the electrical structures will limit unscheduled downtime in the business. This will also mitigate the risk of equipment damage and personnel injury and the subsequent financial losses attached to these issues.

Ideally, you should employ an electrical contractor to perform regular maintenance of your commercial power distribution system. You can also engage an in-house electrical expert for constant servicing. Regardless of your choice, here are the important aspects that you should ensure are taken care of during electrical system maintenance.

Cleaning the Modules

The electrical system requires frequent cleaning for optimal performance and longevity of the components. This maintenance task should be aimed at removing all contaminants that can compromise the function of the system. In most cases, the power distribution system is dirtied by dust, moisture and general water vapour. Basically, the dust will combine with moisture and general air pollutants and settle on the electrical modules.

The deposit will form a coating on the conductor insulation and other contact surfaces. Consequently, the electrical system will not be able to release and dissipate heat efficiently. This issue can result in the premature failure of conductor insulation and thermal protective devices due to overheating. It is prudent to commission frequent vacuuming, dusting and cleaning of the components to promote ideal function of the system.

Breaker Testing

Circuit breakers are essential in the electrical system because it prevents the detriments of power overload and short circuit. Therefore, if the breakers are not functioning optimally, they will be incapable of detecting irregularities in the power flow and causing interruptions. You should ensure that your buildings' breakers are tested before installation of new products to avoid problems when there are power surges. You should ensure that these tests are repeated periodically during the life service of the breakers. The tests after installation will not necessitate the removal of the circuit breakers from the system, so they are relatively inexpensive.

Thermographic Inspection

Thermographic assessments are designed to identify signs of unusual heating in the electrical systems. Most electrical contractors will utilise an infrared camera to display images based on the temperature rating. The obtained data can be used to prevent electrical problems from escalating. Common causes of unusual hot spots that should be resolved during maintenance include corroded and loose connections.

Best Questions to Ask Electricians and Other Tips and Ideas

Welcome to my blog. My name is Mia. A few years ago, my partner and I bought an old home. It needed to have all new wiring installed, and through that process of working closely with a fabulous electrician, I learned a lot. I learned everything, from which questions to ask, to how to do a bit of wiring on my own. If you are hiring an electrician, you need to explore my posts. I hope they help guide you in the right direction. Now, that our home is finally, for the first time, not in the midst of a repair or project, I decided to start this blog. In addition, I also like to fish and read.
