5 Possible Signs That You May Have Stripped or Damaged Wires at Your Factory

Blog

If you run a factory, you have to ensure your electrical wiring is always in a state of good repair. Short circuits or damaged wires can slow down your production schedule, lose you money or even hurt one of your employees. Because of this, it's critical to be vigilant against damaged wires.

Want to ensure your wires are running correctly? Here are four signs to watch for:

1. Evidence of mice

Wires are sometimes damaged by outside sources, and mice are one of the most common culprits. Ideally, as part of their daily duties, your cleaning crew should watch for mice droppings. Although evidence of mice doesn't necessarily indicate that your wires have been affected, it helps alert you to the potential.

If you detect mice, start exterminating as soon as possible, and keep out your eyes and ears for other signs of wire damage.

2. Lack of casing

Unfortunately, you cannot easily monitor your electrical wires that are in the walls of your factory, but if you have any exposed wires or cords, you should visually monitor them on a weekly basis. In particular, look at the insulation. If it is cracked and peeling and the wiring is visible, you need to contact a commercial electrician immediately.

Without insulation, the electricity running through the wire isn't directed, and it can jump to other wires or electrocute you or one of your staff members.

3. Frequent Shorts

If you are experiencing a lot of short circuits, you may be overloading the circuit with too much machinery, but in other cases, the short circuits may be caused by a stripped wire. Contact an electrician to investigate for you.

4. Smell of burning insulation

If your wires have started to overheat, they will produce a distinctive burning smell. This smell comes as a result of the casing or insulation around the wire melting due to the heat. As indicated above, without the casing around the wire, the electricity won't travel as usual, and it can jump to other wires.

This can cause short circuits, fires or even machine failure.

5. Smoke

In some cases, you may see smoke before you smell burning wires. If this has happened, your troubled wire may already be on fire. Unfortunately, if you do not detect that your wire has an issue until it starts smoking, you need to take drastic measures. Because of the fire risk, you need to empty the building, and then, you need to call a commercial electrician as soon as possible to assess the damage and replace the broken length of wire.

Best Questions to Ask Electricians and Other Tips and Ideas

Welcome to my blog. My name is Mia. A few years ago, my partner and I bought an old home. It needed to have all new wiring installed, and through that process of working closely with a fabulous electrician, I learned a lot. I learned everything, from which questions to ask, to how to do a bit of wiring on my own. If you are hiring an electrician, you need to explore my posts. I hope they help guide you in the right direction. Now, that our home is finally, for the first time, not in the midst of a repair or project, I decided to start this blog. In addition, I also like to fish and read.
