Types of Heat Pumps You Could Consider For Your Home

Blog

Heating and cooling systems are a staple in most Australian homes. However, not many homeowners contemplate the range of options available to the when it comes to heating solutions for their home. A common choice for individuals who are looking for exclusive heating solutions are heat pumps. Here are some of the different types of heat pumps that you could consider for your home.

Air source pumps

These types of heat pumps are suited for areas that experience moderate climate changes rather than extreme weather conditions. The air source pump will be installed at the side of a wall on your residence. It then functions to draw air from the outdoors and transfer heat into the home by use of compression and an exterior and interior coil made from copper tubing. When your home's temperature drops, the liquid refrigerant in the exterior coil will extract heat from the air outdoors.  The refrigerant evaporates and is passed into the interior coil where it converts back into its liquid state by producing warmth. The generated warmth is then redirected into your home for heating purposes.

Ground source pumps

These types of heat pumps will draw the warmth they need for the heating purposes from the ground. As such, they are also commonly referred to as geothermal pumps. The ground is a rich source of heat due to the solar energy that it absorbs. With ground source pumps, heating pipes are laid in the earth and they absorb the inherent heat that is being retained in the ground. Ground source pumps tend to have higher efficiency when compared to air source pumps since the temperatures below ground typically stay consistent. The pipes that are installed into the ground circulate a mixture of antifreeze and water. When this mixture absorbs the heat from the earth, it is directed into a heat exchanger. The heat exchanger then transfers the heat to the pump that will then direct the heat to various sources, for instance radiators and more.

Hybrid pumps

Hybrid pumps refer to heat pumps that are used in conjunction with another source of energy. For instance a heat pump that is used in tandem with a gas boiler would be referred to as a hybrid heat pump. This type of heat pump is best for homeowners who already have another heating source installed in their home and would like to complements its efficiency through the use of a heat pump. You can also have a hybrid heat pump is you combine two types of heating sources such as air and ground source pumps.

Best Questions to Ask Electricians and Other Tips and Ideas

Welcome to my blog. My name is Mia. A few years ago, my partner and I bought an old home. It needed to have all new wiring installed, and through that process of working closely with a fabulous electrician, I learned a lot. I learned everything, from which questions to ask, to how to do a bit of wiring on my own. If you are hiring an electrician, you need to explore my posts. I hope they help guide you in the right direction. Now, that our home is finally, for the first time, not in the midst of a repair or project, I decided to start this blog. In addition, I also like to fish and read.
