4 Reasons to Add More Sockets to Your Home

Blog

There are few parts of modern homes more vital than the electrical sockets, but the increased use of various devices and appliances has meant that many homes could do with a few more. Luckily enough, an electrician can quickly and easily add more sockets to your home, and that can improve everything from convenience to safety.

Here are just four reasons to consider adding more sockets to your home.

1. Reduced Reliance on Extension Leads

Since people now use more appliances than older homes might have been designed for, it's common to require multiple extension leads to provide all your devices with the electricity they require. If you don't have enough conveniently located sockets, you can find yourself running extension leads around rooms to compensate. Those cords tend to look unsightly, and they also form tripping hazards that could impact your safety. By adding more sockets, you'll be able to ditch your extension cords.

2. Lower Risk of Overloads

Single sockets overloaded with multiple extensions are a common sight in modern homes. While you can always use socket extenders to power multiple devices from the same outlet, this can increase your risk of overloading that socket and put added pressure on your circuit system. By exceeding maximum current ratings, you even increase the risk of fire. By simply fitting additional sockets, you can remove that safety issue.

3. Improve Everyday Convenient

If you don't have enough sockets for all your devices and appliances, you can find yourself needing to swap them around during the day. Need to use the toaster? Then you'll need to unplug the juicer. Have to charge your phone or tablet? Then you'll need to unplug a bedside lamp. Sockets may also not be in optimal locations, so you'll often have to move furniture around to reach them. Instead of putting up with that kind of day-to-day inconvenience, it makes sense to have additional sockets fitted.

4. Add Modern Features

Finally, fitting additional sockets gives you a great opportunity to include modern upgrades. For example, many modern sockets are available with USB ports or USB-C ports. These allow you to charge more devices and removes your reliance on the plug adaptors commonly required for smartphones and tablets. As an added plus, devices often charge faster when plugged into a USB or USB-C port, so you won't have to wait around as long to get a full battery.

Best Questions to Ask Electricians and Other Tips and Ideas

Welcome to my blog. My name is Mia. A few years ago, my partner and I bought an old home. It needed to have all new wiring installed, and through that process of working closely with a fabulous electrician, I learned a lot. I learned everything, from which questions to ask, to how to do a bit of wiring on my own. If you are hiring an electrician, you need to explore my posts. I hope they help guide you in the right direction. Now, that our home is finally, for the first time, not in the midst of a repair or project, I decided to start this blog. In addition, I also like to fish and read.
